The cover block allows you to add an image or video into your content with an optional coloured overlay and text. The cover block is great for page headers.
You can just choose an image here as an example. Now, after adding your image or video, you can then add text to your block, by clicking in this space that’s already highlighted for you.
If you wish to you add some more text, you can use the “insert before” or “after” option, like so.
We’ll just click back into the cover block here.
You can see there are further options available in the Settings sidebar here and selecting the “fixed background” option, sets the image or video as a background. And this has the effect of your page sliding over the top of the image of text when you scroll.
Let’s just demonstrate that, it’s a bit like a ‘parallax effect’ as it’s known.
If you remove that option and preview it, it’ll just scroll like a normal image in your content.
The “focal point picker” allows you to tune to the alignment of your image and where the main focus point is, depending on the size of your image and how it’s displayed by your theme, you may or may not see much difference when changing this.
You can also select an overlay colour by selecting one of the colour swatches here, or by selecting a custom colour.
You can use the “background opacity slider” to change the opacity of your selected colour. This has the effect of allowing you to tint to the image or video colour, which can help your text stand out some more.
